Bastiaan

I'm an independent IT advisor based in the Netherlands. For the past 30 years, I've helped organizations navigate technology decisions with clarity and calm.

My career has taken me through infrastructure, security, cloud migrations, automation projects, and everything in between. I've worked with small businesses making their first serious IT investments and large enterprises untangling complex legacy systems. What stays constant is the goal: make technology work reliably for the people who depend on it.

I work comfortably between management and technical teams. That means I can discuss strategic technology direction in the boardroom, then roll up my sleeves and troubleshoot a network issue on the datacenter floor. This translation ability — speaking both languages fluently — is often what clients value most.

My approach is practical over theoretical. I've seen enough technology fads come and go to focus on what actually works: clear requirements, sensible architecture, reliable implementation, and thorough documentation. No magic, no buzzwords, just solid engineering paired with good judgment.

How I Work

I operate as an independent advisor, which means my only stake in any recommendation is whether it's right for your situation. I don't sell products, push specific vendors, or inflate project scopes. This independence lets me give honest second opinions, challenge bad ideas (including yours and mine), and focus entirely on your interests.

I work flexibly — short-term projects, ongoing advisory relationships, or temporary leadership roles during transitions. Remote or onsite, structured to fit your needs. Communication in Dutch or English, depending on what works best for your team.

Beyond Technology

When I'm not working, I sail. Sailing teaches patience, planning, and respect for forces you can't control. You learn to check your rigging before leaving harbor, monitor conditions constantly, and adjust course when the wind shifts. You also learn that sometimes the smartest move is to wait for better weather.

These lessons apply equally well to complex IT projects, or life for that matter. Preparation is very important. Conditions change. Overconfidence is dangerous. And occasionally, the best (technical) decision is to slow down and reconsider.
